“Soft And Silent”

Everything I love is soft and silent,

My cat, the morning, the end of day,

Even the Moon in its way.

Everything I love is soft and silent,

The water, the forest, the snow at play

Even the mountain in its way.

Everything I love is soft and silent,

The sun on the sand, a rainy day,

Even the wind in its way.

Everything I love is soft and silent,

The grass, the brook, the leaves at play,

Even you in your way.

A Poem by James Kavanaugh, from his book

“There Are Men Too Gentle To Live Among Wolves”  – How very true that is.

Rod McKuen, a very good Friend of James Kavanaugh and a gentle giant like him.

    1. I do feel there is somewhat of a difference in their works, though. I feel like Rod was always in some way looking for someone to “complete” him. For me I think Kavanaugh had a bit of a different search. He was not looking for something quite that personal. I felt he was just looking for connection of any kind. Perhaps the difference was he had been a priest.

      1. I agree, Rod always said he never found a Woman who loved him as much as his Mother, never found a Woman who was so honest as her – He never did find that “Woman”. I love both their works. Have just said “yes” another Kavanaugh book inscribed to Rod with personal letter inside, from Rod’s Library, can’t wait until it arrives. Both of them suffered in different ways.
