THE BELLS RANG OUT AS THE FOG THICKENED

She walked so slowly

trying to see her way

through this thick

London Fog

The dampness of the fog

penetrated her skin, her hair

even her coat seemed damp

but she continued to walk

Soon she would

be leaving the park path

and walking on the busy

pavements of this Town

As a bus slowly passed her by

she tried to hail a taxi

but it was to no avail

she continued on her way

Through the fog

shadows, was it he

was it the man she loved

at last  they would be together

Church bells rang out

evening services beginning

the sounds of the bells

made her feel at home at last

But there was one thing missing

him, so many years apart

and here in this Town

on this night

they arranged to meet

Through this thick fog

the shadow of a man

surely him it must be

she hears her name called

still the strong voice

“Its him at last its him” she cried out

as the shadow walked surely towards her

his voice still strong as he called her name

and finally stood facing her

A shadow no more

with the same smile across his face

he had survived the War

as the bells of the Church rang out
