The famous French male singer of all time, Charles Aznavour died on October 1, 2018, he was 94 years of age. Charles Aznavour was found dead in his bathtub at his home, it was announced that Aznavour died of acute oedema caused by cardio-respiratory failure.
Born on May 22, 1924 Charles was born to Michael Aznavourian from Akhaltsikhe, Georgia and Knar Baghdasarian, Armenian from Smyrna. The family moved to France where they opened a Restaurant. Charles had a sister Aida.
In a career that spanned 70 years, Aznavour toured the World bringing so much pleasure and joy to all those fortunate enough to attend his concerts, and also much pleasure to all those that enjoyed his music. During the early stages of his career, Aznavour opened for Edith Piaf known as “The Little Bird”, at the Moulin Rouge. Piaf advised Aznavour to pursue a singing career. Edith Piaf helped him develop a distinctive voice. Aznavour could speak and sing in 8 different languages, including his own.
Charles Aznavour was short in height, 5 ft 3 inches, with such a distinctive voice, sometimes described as France’s Frank Sinatra, he not only sang but wrote so much of his songs as well. Aznavour’s list of those he performed with was truly extensive, he also received so many honours for not only what he had achieved in music and singing but his devotion to help those in Armenia.
During World War II and the German Occupation of France, Aznavour and his family hid Jews and a number of people who were persecuted by the Nazis. They hid these people at a great risk to their family, in their own home. Charles and his Sister, Aida in 2017 received The Raoul Wallenberg Award for this work.
Aznavour was Married three times, he leaves a Wife Ulla and six surviving Children. Charles Aznavour died in his home at Mouries.
Aznavour was much popular here in the UK often signing at The Royal Command performances, and at The Royal Albert Hall. In the UK his Song “She” and “The Old Fashioned Way” were very big hits, the latter staying 15 weeks at the top of the charts.
France is preparing to Honour its most famous and most loved Gentleman of Song, I should imagine the Streets of Paris will be lined fully
